Justice is Within Our Reach

HPRP is challenging our community to raise $200,000 by June 30th to fund life-changing legal representation and advocacy for those who cannot afford it. Will you help?
Each year in Maryland, at least 50,000 people experience homelessness. More than ten times that many live with the fear of being one misstep away from becoming homeless. For someone in this position, a permanent sense of safety and stability feels constantly out of reach. The daily challenges they endure are difficult, daunting, and draining.
A person may find temporary relief from a night in a shelter or a meal from a food bank; but lasting change is within reach when they have an advocate to break through individual and systemic barriers to stable housing and reliable income. A lawyer can make all the difference.
The Homeless Persons Representation Project, Inc. (HPRP) provides free, quality legal representation to Marylanders who cannot afford to hire an attorney on their own. Beyond providing direct legal representation in matters such as wrongful evictions, veterans benefits, and records expungement, HPRP works to change policies and programs that contribute to homelessness in the first place.
With your support, HPRP can take on – and win – legal battles for Maryland families, youth, veterans, and individuals who would otherwise face formidable injustices alone. Winning these kinds of cases forever impacts a person’s ability to maintain their housing, income, employment, and safety net.
HPRP relies on the generosity of people like you who share their passion for creating a fair and equitable justice system. Every gift to HPRP makes a difference, ensuring that free legal assistance is available to over 1,400 individuals and families each year. Let’s make sure that our neighbors are not alone and that public policies are changed to end the injustice of homelessness.
